Sixteen days. Thirty-two teams. And a two-week window that officially kicks off the American Hockey League’s new season. The AHL Home Openers Schedule 2026-27 is out, spanning Friday, October 2, through Saturday, October 17, 2026 — every team’s first night in front of its own fans, complete with the promotions and energy that make opening night one of the most anticipated dates on the calendar.
A Two-Weekend Opening Rush, Then a Late Straggler
The AHL Home Openers Schedule 2026-27 front-loads the calendar hard. Eighteen of the 32 teams open at home across just the first two Friday-Saturday pairs — October 2-3 alone. A second wave follows the next weekend, October 9-10, with 11 more teams debuting at home. Only three teams — Charlotte, Abbotsford, and Bakersfield — wait until the third weekend, October 16-17, to host their first game, giving those markets a longer stretch of road hockey before the home crowd gets its first look.
Familiar Rivalries Return Early
A few pairings jump out from the early slate. Toronto and Hamilton face off twice within the home-opener window alone — first as Rochester hosts Toronto on October 2, then Toronto hosting Hamilton the very next night, and Hamilton returning the favor against Toronto on October 9. Manitoba and Chicago also cross paths twice in the opening stretch, with Chicago traveling to Manitoba on October 3 before Manitoba returns the visit to open its own home slate on October 10.
