Substantive Corrections
Errors affecting facts, statistics, quotes, names, scores, or the meaning of a story. These always receive a visible correction note, no matter how small the factual change may seem.
How Corrections Are Disclosed
When a substantive correction is made, a clearly visible note is added to the article, formatted like this:
Correction (Date): This article originally stated [incorrect information]. It has been corrected to reflect [accurate information].
The original publication date stays visible alongside the correction date, so readers can see exactly what changed and when.
How Errors Come to Our Attention

- Official corrections issued by leagues, associations, schools, or statistics providers
- Follow-up reporting that surfaces new information
Review Process
- The original sourcing behind the claim is reviewed
- The correct information is verified against credible sources
- The article is updated, with a correction notice if the change is substantive
- The person who reported the issue receives a response, where contact information was provided
Timeline
Reported errors are typically reviewed and resolved within 2–3 business days. Time-sensitive factual errors — an incorrect score, a misattributed quote — are prioritized for same-day correction wherever possible.
Retractions
In rare cases where a story proves fundamentally inaccurate or was based on unreliable sourcing, the article may be retracted entirely. A retraction notice will explain why, and where appropriate, point readers to corrected reporting.
